Thomas Garkish, 91, Lorain High Graduate

Thomas Garkish, age 91, of Lorain died Thursday, March 7, 2002 at the Inn at Chapel Creek (Vermilion) following an extended illness. He was born December 221, 1910 in Aliquippa, PA and had been a resident of Lorain since 1928. He was a 1930A graduate of Lorain High School.

He was employed in electrical maintenance at the former U.S. Steel for 42 years, retiring in 1973.

Mr. Garkish was a parishioner of St. Vitus Catholic Church.

A member of the American Owners and Pilots Association, he was licensed to fly single engine planes. His additional hobbies included bowling, auto racing, and a 30-year interest in bicycling.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years: Ann Marie (nee Berish); they would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on April 16th; daughters: Marilyn Owens of Daly City, CA, and Annette Kerekanich of Vermilion; 4 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildrren; brother Edward Rastovski; sister: Mary Jane Kraly. He was preceded in death by his parents: Antone and Mary (nee Fister) Garkish-Ratovski; sister: Ann Duell in 1980.

Private family services were held Monday in Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Simon Nekic, pastor of St. Vitus Catholic Church, officiated. Burial followed in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
