Orval Frederick Moon, 90, Millwright
Orval Frederick Moon, 90 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Friday morning, March 8, 2002 at Amherst Manor Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.Born June 15, 1911 in Terra Alta, West Virginia, he was raised in Maryland and came to Lorain in 1940. He had been a resident of Amherst since 1999.
He was employed at US Steel, Lorain for over 30 years, retiring in 1968 as a millwright. He loved being outdoors, whittling, camping, hiking, traveling, reading, gardening, and keeping track of his family history.
Survivors include his son Robert F. Moon of Amherst; his daughter Carol Gray of Lorain; three grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and his sister Mildred Pugh of St. Petersburg, FL. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Edith Mildred (nee Hall) Moon in 1999; and by is parents Albert Thomas and Emma Louvina (nee Hardesty) Moon.
Friends may call Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave.; Amherst. Funeral services will be held Monday, 10:00 a.m. from the funeral home. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
