Allen Brewer, 82, WWII Veteran
Allen Brewer, age 82, of Lorain died on Tuesday, March 12, 2002 at his residence, while under the care of the Visiting Nurses Association Hospice, following lingering illness.He was born on July 16, 1919 in Brownsville, PA, moving to Lorain 5 years ago. Prior to this he had lived in Fairview Park and North Olmsted, Ohio.
He served in the United States Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater.
Allen was a member of the Moose Club, Eagles, Veteran of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He enjoyed old cars.
He is survived by his sons: William E. Brewer of Mentor, Thomas Starr, of Bainbridge, Ohio, daughter: Ruth Ann Powell, of Lorain, 8 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, sisters: Annabelle Whilhelm, of Willoughby, OH and Thelma Salyers, of Freedom, PA.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years: Maxine (nee Starr) in 1996, sons: Robert in 1988 and Howard in 2001.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 14, 2002 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain. Services will be held on Friday at Westwood Abbey Chapel of Sunset Memorial Park, 6265 Columbia Road, North Olmsted, Ohio. Rev. William Schill, deacon of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Lorain, will officiate. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. The North Ridgeville VFW Post #9871 will conduct full military honors.
