Emil Garza, 71, U.S. Steel Truck Driver

Emil Garza, Jr. 71, formerly of Lorain died Wednesday, March 13, 2002 at EMH Regional Medical Center, Elyria following a lengthy illness.

He was born on April 1, 1930 in Hebbronville, Texas, was a Lorain resident for most of his life and has been a resident of Elyria for the last year.

He worked at U.S. Steel as a truck driver in the transportation department for 30 years, retiring in 1969. Mr. Garza was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during the Korea Conflict serving as a seaman aboard the USS Corduba.

Mr. Garza was a member of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church and V.F.W. Post 451 of Lorain. He enjoyed dancing, bowling and was an avid sportsfan especially baseball and football.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Marlene T. (nee Garcia), daughter Cynthia Miniello of Parma, sons Anthony of Fort Myers, FL, and Gary of Columbus. Stepson Michael Aguilar of Elyria, 1 grandson, sister, Nina Rodriquez of Puerto Rico, brothers Raymond of Elyria, and Higinio and Frank of California.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Emilo and Antonia (Ollervides) Garza Sr.

Friends may call Sunday, March 17, 2002 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Dombrowski-Volak-Riddle Funeral Home, 1939 Oberlin Ave., Lorain where services will be Monday, March 18, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Robert J. Glepko, pastor of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain with full military honors conducted by the V.F.W. Post 451.
