Virginia Hageman, 88, First United/Cornerstone Methodist Church
Virginia Hageman (nee Albaugh),88, died on Wednesday, March 13, 2002 at Elyria Methodist Village in Elyria, OH following a long illness.Mrs. Hageman was born on October 10, 1913 in Lorain, OH and was a lifetime resident. She was a graduate of Lorain High School. She received a bachelor of science degree in education from Bowling Green State University. She studied postgraduate both at Bowling Green State University and Ohio State University. Mrs. Hageman taught in the Lorain City School system at Garden Avenue, Fairhome and Irving Junior High.
She was a member of the First United/Cornerstone Methodist Church in Lorain, Wimodaugsis Club of Lorain and Gamma Phi Beta Sorority at Bowling Green.
Mrs Hageman was chosen as the Quota Club's Lorain's Outstanding Woman for the year 1953. She served on the Lorain City School board in various capacities and earned the distinction of being the very first woman elected to the position of Lorain City School board president. She served as head of the American Red Cross Bloodmobile Program during the Korean Conflict. She served as secretary of the Lorain Salvation Army Advisory Board and was a member and past chairperson for the Foundation Board of Lorain County Community College.
Mrs. Hageman is survived by two grandchildren; Kent Hageman of Lorain and Wendy Hageman of Farmington, NM, and 4 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Hageman on October 12, 1995, one son; Herman Walter Hageman on Sept. 7. 1970, her parents Dr. Walter and Nellie (nee Baldwin) Hageman, DDS.
Friends may call at Schwartz Spence Boyer & Cool Home for Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain, OH, on Friday, March 15, 2002 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and one prior to funeral services on Saturday.
Funeral services will be held on March 16, 2002 at 11:00 am at Schwartz Spence Boyer & Cool Home for Funerals in Lorain, OH, with Rev. Dale Warrick, pastor of First United/ Cornerstone Methodist Church, officiating.
Virginia Hageman will be buried at Ridge Hill Memorial Park Cemetery in Amherst Twp., OH.
