Carroll Clay Dobbins, 77, Carpenter
Carroll Clay Dobbins, 77 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Friday, march 15, 2002 at his home after a lengthy illness.Born December 15, 1924 in Sabraton, West Virginia where he was raised and lived until 1952 when he moved to Amherst.
He was employed by US Steel, Lorain for 33 � years, retiring in 1986 as a carpenter. He served in the US Air Force during World War II in the European Theater in the 8th Air Force where he received the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with one Bronze Star and one Silver Star; two Overseas Service Bars; and the Good Conduct Medal. He enjoyed golfing, gardening, woodworking and was an avid reader.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Reta G. (nee McCartney) Dobbins; a daughter Mrs. Lewis (Carolyn) McDaniel of Morgantown, WV; two grandsons; and a brother Emmitt Dobbins of Fairmont WV.
He was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Dobbins in 1986; his parents, Ressie Clay and Ouita (nee Curtis) Dobbins; and by a brother William Carl Dobbins in 1979.
Friends may call Sunday, March 17, 2002 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave; Amherst. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 18, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. from the funeral home. The Rev. Christopher Robinson, chaplain at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph will officiate. Private burial will be in Brownhelm Cemetery, Brownhelm Township.
