Clara M. Hassel, 88, MOTHER OF NINE

Clara M. Hassel (nee Huber), 88, of Avon Lake, passed away Sunday March, 17, 2002 at St. John and West Shore Hospital, Westlake following a short (six week) illness.

She was born April 11, 1913 in Cleveland and lived in Avon Lake most of her life. Clara was employed as a registered nurse, receiving her trainging at St. Vincent Charity Hospital, Cleveland and employed at St. Joseph Hospital, Lorain many years before retiring 26 years ago. She was a member of Holy Spirit Church, Avon Lake. She enjoyed crafts, crocheting, flower gardening, and bird-watching.

Clara is survived by four sons, Dick of Avon Lake, James of Avon Lake, David of Avon, and Mark of Avon; five daughters, Alberta Haael of Aovn Lake, Marie Virant of Wisconsin, Connie Riedel of Texas, Kathy Urig of Henrietta Twp. and Marcia Hassel of Sheffield Lake; 21 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Jean Wilkins, Sister Mildred Huber O.P., Joan Freeland and Ruth Hassel; and a brother Daniel Huber. She was preceded in death by her husband Earl in 1970, a great-grandchild, Denise; three brothers, Victor Huber, Robert Huber, and Charles Huber and her parents, Charles and Judits (nee Lise) Huber.

Friends may call at the BUSCH-BURMEISTER FAMILY CHAPEL, 163 Avon-Belden Rd. Avon Lake from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Tuesday. Prayer Services at the funeral home Wednesday March 20 at 9:45 a.m. followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Spirit Church, 410 Lear Rd. Avon Lake at 10:30 a.m. Rev. James H. Beatty, pastor, will officiate. Burial will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery, Avon. Memorials may be forwarded to the American Heart Association of Northeast Ohio, 1689 East 115th St, Cleveland, OH 44106 or a charity of choice.
