Michael W. Pribanic, 74, St. Vitus Catholic Church

Michael W. Pribanic, age 74, of Sheffield Lake, died Monday Moarch 18, 2002 at Community Health Partners Hospital and Surgical Center following a brief illness. He was born May 8, 1927 in Lorain and had been a resident of Sheffield Lake since 1956.

A graduate of Lorain High School, he later attended Western Reserve University, and Fenn College both of Cleveland as well as the American Training Institute. He went on to serve in the U.S. Merchant Marine Services from 1944 to 1945. From 1945 to 1947 he served as a staff sergeant in the U.S.Army Air Corps and later in the same capacity with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict from 1950 to 1952, He was attached to the 433 Air Supply Squaron.

He was employed as a construction supervisor at U.S. Steel's Lorain Works where he retired in 1983 following 34 years of service. He had previously been employed there as both a plumber and a pipe fitter.

A parishioner of St. Vitus Catholic Church, he was an accomplished stained glass artist. He was also an avid fan of both the Cleveland Indians and the Cleveland Browns.

Mr. Pribanic was a life member of the Croatian Fraternal Lodge # 136, a life member of Amvets Post # 47 (Lorain), and a life member of Lt. James McManus Council # 637 of the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years: Anne (nee Bentley), along with several nieces and nephews, and numerous grand nieces and grand nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Frank and Mary (nee Plesivak) Pribanic, and by a sister: Mary Sislowski.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 3-7 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel-3224 Broadway-Lorain where a parish rosary will be recited at 3:00 p.m. followed by a funeral mass at 10 a.m. in St. Vitus Catholic Church-East 32nd and Pearl Ave.- in Lorain. The Rev. Simon Nekic, pastor of the church will officiate. Entombment will follow in the Resurrection Mausoleum at Calvary Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by member and officers of Amvets Post # 47 of Lorain.
