Frances L. Sechkar, 87, Served in Womens Army Corp
Frances L. Sechkar (nee: Emmons), 87 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2002 at Golden Acres Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.Born June 1, 1914 in Mt. Carmel, Illinois, she was raised Springfield, OH and moved to the Lorain area in 1946 with her husband. She has lived in Amherst since 1955.
Frances was a cook at Central School in Amherst retiring in 1979 after 20 years. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Amherst where she was very active and participated in the Willing Works and Ladies Guild. She was alos a member of S.C.O.A. of Amherst and AARP of Amherst. She enjoyed flower gardening, cooking and loved her family. Frances served in the Army in the Womens Army Corp. during WWII as a chaplins assistant. It was during her tour of duty that she met and married her husband.
Survivors include her husband of 58 years Andrew S. Sechkar; her sons Mr. William A. Sechkar of Wakeman, Mr. Daniel R. Sechkar of Athens, OH; her daughter Molly Pancini of Newark, OH; 7 grandchildren; one great grand daughter; her brothers Dale Emmons, Ernest Emmons, both of Springfield, OH.
She was preceded in death by her parents Everett and Lora (nee Scott) Emmons; her brothers Raymond, Carl, Kenneth, and Lester Emmons.
Friends may call Friday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave.; Amherst. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:00 a.m. from the funeral home. The Rev. Gary Bernath, pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Amherst will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park.
