Charles L. Spangler, 97, American Ship Building Worker

Charles L. Spangler, 97 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Thursday, March 28, 2002 at Amherst Manor Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.

Born March 29, 1905 in Pennsylvania, where he was raised. He moved to Lorain in 1941 and then to Vermilion in 1955 where he had lived until moving to Amherst in 1990.

Charles worked for American ShipBuilding and Thew Shovel in Lorain before working for Lorain Products for 10 years as a Stockroom Manager.

Survivors include his wife of 75 years, Charlette Irene (nee Forsha) Spangler; his son Mr. Bill G. Spangler of Amherst; 2 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by: his son Kenneth Spangler at age 6; is daughter Naomi Windlind in 1991; his parents George and Katherine Spangler; his sisters Mable Price and Bertha Mitchell.

Burial will be private. The Hempel Funeral Home 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst, will be handling the arrangements.
