John Frances Bauer, 78, World War II Veteran

John Francis Bauer, 78, o f Avon passed away Thursday, March 28, 2002 at Marymount Hospital in Garfield Heights.

He was born May 10, 1923 in Lakewood, OH and moved to Avon in 1988 coming from Cleveland. He began working for the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1937 and enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. He returned to the Pennsylvania Railroad after the war and retired from Conrail with a medical disability in 1976. He also worked part-time for the A& P Company.

He was a member of Holy Trinity Church, Avon; was a Boy Scout leader in the 1950's and 1960's and enjoyed doing handy-work around the home.

John is survived by his wife, La Verne (nee Hussey); a daughter, Sharon Baxter of North Olmsted and two sons, John Bauer of Avon and Robert Bauer of Columbus, six grandchildren, Pamela Baxter, Norman Baxter, John Bauer, Gwendolyn Kerns; Rob Bauer and Becky Bauer; three great grandchildren, Allison Kerns, Michael and Julia Baxter; and a brother Lawrence of Florida.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Frances Kokotaylo, Rose Taylor and Virginia Bauer; and her parents, John and Elizabeth (nee Hoffman) Bauer.

Friends may call at the Busch-Burmeister Family Chapel, 32000 Detroit Road, Avon from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Monday, April 1, 2002. Prayer services will be held at the funeral home, Tuesday, April 2, 2002 at 9:30 a.m. followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Trinity Church, 33601 Detroit Road, Avon at 10:00 a.m. Rev. John Misenko, pastor of Holy Trinity Church, Avon will officiate. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Brookpark.
