Aloysius "Al" Robert Prosak, 75, U.S. Navy Fireman
Aloysius "Al" Robert Prosak, 75, of Lorain, died Wednesday, April 3, 2002 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, Lorain, following a short illness.Born August 20, 1926 in Lorain, he was a lifelong resident here. He was a 1944 graduate of Lorain High School.
He served in the U.S. Navy as a fireman first class aboard the U.S.S. Missouri during World War II, having received the Victory Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal with 3 stars, and the American Area Campaign Medal.
He worked as a machine operator for 28 years at the Toledo Lorain Fairport Shipping and Receiving, Lorain, retiring in 1975.
He was an active member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Lorain, and the churches Holy Name Society. He was also a member of the Lorain Catholic Boosters Club, the U.S.S. Missouri Association, the Longshoremen Union, the Polish Fisherman's Club, the Polish Legion of American Veterans Post 38, and the United Polish Club all of Lorain.
He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, and gardening.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Dorothy (nee Suchocki), 3 sons, Victor, of Avon Lake, David of Columbus, and Alex, of Seal Beach, California, 5 grandchildren, 2 brothers, Ed Prosak and Ted Prosak, both of Lorain, a sister, Angie Plato, of Elyria.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gregory Prosak and Veronica (nee Piatek) Prosak, brothers, Joseph and Frank Prosak, sisters, Helen Matuszak, and Mary Pogorzelski.
The family will receive friends on Friday, April 5, 2002 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain, where the Holy Name Society of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church will conduct a rosary at 7:30 p.m. The family will also receive friends on Saturday, April 6th, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, E. 28th Street and Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Rev. Fr. Kevin Shemuga, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain. The Polish Legion of American Veterans, Post # 38 of Lorain and Disabled American Veterans, Louis Paul Proy Chapter 20, will conduct full military honors.
