Dorothy Bauers Holcomb, 88, Teacher

She was born on May 22, 1913 in Hamden, OH and lived in Vermilion since 1986. She had also lived in Avon and Bay Village and had lived in Lorain for the past year.

She received her master's Degree of Education in Special Education and had been a sixth grade teacher in the Amherst School District for 23 years, retiring in 1978. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Vermilion, enjoyed traveling, antiquing and being in the company of her family.

Survivors include her daughters, Kathleen Bowers of LaVita, CO, Julie White of Vermilion, Dorothy "Dottie" Allen of Westlake, Sara Pelle of Benicia CA, son, Paul "Pat" Bauers of Avon; 15 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her 1st husband, Paul R. Bauers in 1960, her 2nd husband, Robert E. Holcomb in 1996, her parents, Charles and Julia Salter, a sister, Ellen Leloy and a brother Charles Salter.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 9, 2002 from 2-4 an d7-9 p.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion. Prayers will be said at the funeral home at 11;00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 10, 2002, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 731 Exchange Street, Vermilion. Father Steve Blum, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Mary Immaculate Church Cemetery, Avon.
