Gerrard J. Ryan, 78, Maintenance Worker at U.S. Steel
Gerard J. Ryan, age 78, of Lorain died on Wednesday, April 10, 2002, at his residence, while under the care of New Life Hospice, following a lengthy illness.He was born on October 7, 1923 in Brooklyn, New York and moved to the Lorain area in 1955.
He was employed in the maintenance dept. at Lorain Works, U.S. Steel for 18 years, retiring in 1971.
Gerard enjoyed fishing, painting and drawing, and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his sons: Bonnie Brown, of Lorain, Thomas Ryan of Panama City Beach FL, daughters: Gerri Adams and Vivian Ryan, both of Lorain, 8 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, sisters: Agnes Garritty, of Monroe City, IN, Mary Marino, of Yonkers, New York, Elizabeth Roccio of Tuscon, AZ and Margaret Rankin, of Cavendish, VT.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 27 years: Ona Gae (nee Brown) in 1985, daughter Theresa in 1971, brothers Martin, Joseph, and James and a sister Grace Gabris.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 14, 2002 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Rev. Arlon Lowe, pastor of Victory Baptist Church, South Amherst, will officiate. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
