Clayton T. Tibbitts, 65, Veteran, Sheet Metal Worker and Policeman

Clayton T. Tibbitts, 65 of Avon Lake, formerly Cleveland, passed away following an accident, Thursday, April 11 at Metro Health Center. Mr. Tibbitts was born January 19, 1937 in Cleveland and had lived in Avon Lake since 1971.

He was a graduate of West Tech High School, Cleveland, served in the US Army, 82nd Airborne Division from 1955-1957. Mr. Tibbitts was a sheet metal worker and member of Union Local #33. He was also a retired Avon Lake Police Officer. Mr. Tibbitts was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Avon Lake, a member of the Knights of Columbus, Fr. Ragan Council and a member of the Avon VFW Post 7035. He enjoyed motorcycling, bowling, golf and fishing. He was described by his family as an accomplished pianist.

His wife of 35 years, Mary B. (nee O'Boyle) passed away in 1993. He is survived by sons, Clayton T. Jr. of Brooklyn and Francis E. of Avon Lake, a daughter Theresa M. Baker fo Charlotte, NC, a brother Nelson Tibbitts of Brook Park and 4 grandchildren, Christopher, Connor, Kaitlyn and Jack. Besides his wife, Mr. Tibbitts is preceded in death by four sons, John, Brian, James and Robert and his parents, Francis E. and Helen (nee McNearny) Tibbitts.

Friends may call at the Busch-Burmeister Family Chapel, 163 Avon-Belden Rd. Avon Lake, Monday, April 15 from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-9:00pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, April 16 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 32929 Lake Rd. Avon Lake at 10:00am. Fr. Timothy J. O'Connor of the Church will officiate. Internment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery. Memorials may be forwarded to University Hospital of Cleveland, Ireland Cancer Center, 11100 Euclid Ave, Cleveland 44106.
