Joseph Garbo, 76, Veteran and Teacher
Joseph Garbo, 76 of Lorain died on Friday April 12, 2002 at Community Health Partners Hospital West following a lengthy illness.He was born on May 19, 1925 in Lorain. Mr. Garbo was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II, and U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a retired teacher with the Cleveland Schools.
Mr. Garbo, a car enthusiast, was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church.
Survivors include sisters Rosemary Hardesty of Avon Lake and Frances Tyler of Newport Beach California; Brothers Dominic Garbo of Lorain and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Garbo was preceded in death by parents Salvatore "Samuel" and Guiseppina "Josephine" (nee Buonavita) Garbo, borthers Joseph 1924 (Lorain Tornado), Anthony 1998 and Phillip 2000.
Visitation is Monday 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. at Reidy-Scanlan-Chambers Funeral Home, 2150 Broadway, followed by an 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1305 East Erie Ave., Lorain with the Rev. Charles Henkle, Associate Pastor, interment at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
Full military honors will be conducted by the Disabled American Veterans, Louis Paul Proy Chapter #20, Lorain.
