Joseph Gundert, 72, Welder

Joseph Gundert, 82, of Avon passed away Saturday, April 20, 2002 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Avon.

He was born October 11, 1919 in Budapest, Hungary, and moved to Avon from Germany forty years ago.

During World War II he served in the Hungarian Army and was a prisoner of war in Russia for three years. Joseph was a welder in Germany and worked in the foundry at the Brookpark Ford plant retiring after twenty-nine years of employment.

He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Avon and of the Donauschwaben Club of Olmsted Falls. Joseph enjoyed playing cards and watching sports, and he coached little league for four years in Avon.

MR. Gundert is survived by his wife of 53 years, Theresa (nee Timar) ; a daughter, Irene Gehring (Thomas) of Spencer; a son, Bob Gundert (Terri) of Wellington; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Maria Gundert (nee Mayer); two sisters, Maria Koblinger and Theresa Koblinger; a brother, Paul and a granddaughter, Carolyn Gehring.

Friends may call at the Busch-Burmeister Family Chapel, 32000 Detroit Road, Avon from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Monday, April 22, 2002. Prayer services at the funeral home, Tuesday, April 23rd at 9:30 a.m. followed by the mass of Christian Burial at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 33601 Detroit Road, Avon at 10:00 a.m. Father John Misenko will officiate. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon.
