Richard F. "Dick" Rose, 61, Lorain Senior Center Volunteer

Richard F. (Dick) Rose, 61, of Lorain died Sunday afternoon, April 21, 2002 at his home following a brief illness.

Mr. Rose was born June 1, 1940 in Lorain and was a lifelong resident.

He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was employed by the Lorain Senior Center and was also a volunteer there. He had attended the Delaware Avenue United Methodist Church in Lorain.

Mr. Rose was a member of AA since 1973 and helped establish the AA/Al-Anon group meetings at the former Lorain Community Hospital Alcoholism Center. He also co-sponsored the first Al-A-Teen group in Lorain County and helped in establishing the first Lorain County AA central office. In addition, he was the Coordinator of the former "Road Back" drop in center for recovering alcoholics.

He is survived by two sons, Daniel R. Rose of New York City, NY , Christopher J. Rose of Lorain, sisters: Carol Banas of Lorain, Janet Elek of Elyria, 3 nephews and his fiancée Susanne Klein with whom he made his home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and LaVern E. (nee Heimann) Rose.

Friends may call a the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer and Cool Home for Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain, OH on Wednesday, April 24, 2002 from 4:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. with an AA Memorial Service at 7:30 p.m.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home with Rev. J. Dennis Henkle pastor of Delaware Avenue United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Ridge Hill Memorial Park Cemetery, Amherst Township. Full military honors will be provided by the Louis Paul Proy Post #20 of the D.A.V. in Lorain.
