Virginia Rivera, 86, Enjoyed Cooking

Virginia Rivera, (nee Laboy), 86, of Lorain, died Sunday, April 21, 2002 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, Lorain following a lengthy illness.

Born December 23, 1915 in Patillas, Puerto Rico, she came to Lorain in 1957.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain, the Legion of Mary, Altar and Rosary Society, Guadalupe Society, Cursillo Movement and Cristo Rey, all of the Chapel.

She enjoyed helping in the kitchen at Sacred Heart, cooking, her animals, and being with her family.

Surviving is her sons, Nicholis Rivera, of Paterson, NJ and Vincente Rivera, of Irvington, NJ, a daughter, Mary Santiago, of Lorain, 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren, a brother, Jose F. Laboy of Lorain.

She was preceded in death by her son, Santiago "Oscar" Rivera, in 1995, a great granddaughter, Jacyln Santiago, in 1988, a brother, Jose Cordero Laboy in 1989 and a sister, Gladys Otero in 1993.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 23rd from 2-4 and 7-9 in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain where funeral services will be Wednesday, April 24th at 8:45 a.m. followed by mass at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
