Francis Cunningham, 81, Enjoyed Bowling

Francis “Frank” X. Cunningham, age 81, of Lorain, died Thursday, April 25, 2002 at his residence while under the care of New Life Hospice, following a lengthy illness.

Born on November 11, 1920 in Pittsburgh, PA, he lived in Lorain for 28 years then moved to Sacramento, CA where he lived for 7 years. He moved back to Lorain in 1991.

He was employed at Fruehauf for 19 years until their closing. Prior to this he worked at the Pittsburgh, PA Post Office.

He served in the United States Army during World War II in the Rome-Arno, Southern France, Rhineland, Ardeness and Central Europe Theater. Frank was in the 550th Glider Infantry Batallion, he received the Good Conduct Medal, the American Theater Service Medal, the European, African Middle-Eastern Theater Service Medal with 5 bronze stars and the Victory Medal.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lorain. He was also a life member of the Veterans of Foreign War Post 451 in Lorain. Frank enjoyed bowling on Leagues at Rebman's Bowling Alley, Lorain.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary C. (nee Mehallic), daughter, Mary Fran Kapucinski, of Sacramento, CA, 2 grandchildren, 1 great grandson, and brother, Edward of Las Vegas, NV.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Anna (nee Strainer) Cunningham, 3 brothers and 1 sister.

The family will receive friends on Monday, April 29, 2002 from 4-8 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 30, 2002 at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home followed by a 10:0 0a.m. Mass at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Lorain. Rev. Fr. Daniel O. Divis, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post #451 will conduct full military honors.
