Louis Kamnikar, 72, Inspector

Louis E. “Blues” Kamnikar, 72, of Lorain, died Friday, April 26, 2002, at Community Health Partners Hospital and Surgical Center in Lorain after a short illness.

He was born June 7, 1929 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.

Mr. Kamnikar worked at US Steel in Lorain as an inspector for 39 years retiring in 1987.

He was a member of the Catholic Church of St. Peter in Lorain where he served as an usher.

Mr. Kamnikar was a member of the Slovenian National Home in Lorain and served on the board of directors from 1978 to 1980 and 1987 to 1993. Since 1981, he was president of the Slovenian National Benefit Lodge #17. He was a member of the American Mutual Life Association Lodge #60. In 1986, he was named Slovenian-Man-of-the-Year by the Federation of Slovenian National Homes.

He enjoyed polka music, dancing and tending to his rose garden.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Eleanor (nee Kavlich), sons, David Kamnikar of Columbus and Michael Kamnikar of Lorain and brothers James Kamnikar of Amherst and Kenneth Kamnikar of Lorain. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Elizabeth (nee Mlakar) Kamnikar.

The family will receive friends, Sunday, April 28, 2002 at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 29, 2002 at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel followed by a 10:00 a.m. funeral mass at the Catholic Church of St. Peter, 3501 Oberlin Ave., Lorain. The Rev. Kenneth Wolnowski, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township.
