Herschel Lawes Vallandigham Jr., 86, Vice President of Marketing
Herschel Lawes Vallandigham Jr., 86, of Avon Lake passed away Saturday, May 4, 2002 at Harborside Healthcare, Westlake.He was born August 22, 1915 in Chicago, Illinois, and has lived in Avon Lake at his daughter's home the past three years, coming from Rocky River. He served in the US Navy during World War II.
Mr. Vallandigham was employed as the International Vice President of Marketing for thirty years at Great Lakes Carbon Corp./Grefco, based in Las Angeles, CA. He was an Amateur Radio Operator since 1937. He was an avid gardener, bird-watcher, artist, fisherman and world traveler. He played the violin, classic guitar and keyboard and was a 32nd Mason.
Mr. Vallandigham is survived by two daughters, Frances R. Schroeder (Charles) of Hampshire, Illinois and Joan E. Lensner (Gordon) of Avon Lake; grandfather of four and great grandfather of two and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Ruth Sophia (nee Haley) and his parents, Herschel L. and Agnes Mangheid (nee Sandberg) Vallandigham.
A memorial services will be held at Busch-Burmeister Family Chapel, 163 Avon Beldon Road, Avon lake on Wednesday, May 8, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Joan E. Skelley-Watts of Rockport United Methodist Church, Rocky River will officiate. Private Inurnment will take place at the Ohio Western Reverse National Cemetery, Rittman.
