Ruth M. Williams, 99, Teacher and Founding Church Member

Ruth M. Williams, age 99, of Vermilion died Saturday, May 4, 2002 at Community Health Partners in Lorain following a sudden illness.

She was born on September 15, 1902 and has been a lifelong resident of Vermilion.

Along with her husband, Carl Williams, she established and ran the original grocery store in Vermilion-on-the-Lake until 1945. She also was a teacher in the Vermilion and Lorain school districts. She was a founding member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Vermilion and a member of the Eastern Stars.

Survivors include a grandson, Carl Hill and a granddaughter, Lynn Cooper, both of Vermilion; 2 great-grandchildren, Shannon and Ryan Cooper.

Preceding her in death was her husband Carl Williams in 1954, a daughter, Jean A. Stemple-Thayer in 2002, a son, Richard Williams in 2000, her parents, Hans and Emma Olmutz, sisters, Carolyn Bauer and Metta Justice and brothers, harry Olmutz, Pete Olmutz and Earl Olmutz.

Friends may call on Monday, May 06, 2002 from 7-9 and again on Tuesday, May 7, 2002 from 10 until the time of services at 11:00 a.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, OH .

Interment will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst.
