George L. Shaffer, 74, U.S. Steel Retiree
George L. Shaffer, age 74, of Lorain died Tuesday, May 7, 2002 at Community Health Partners in Lorain following a lengthy illness.He was born September 27, 1927 in Simpson, WV and has been a Lorain resident for 57 years. He worked for 36 years for the U.S. Steel Co., in Lorain.
Mr. Shaffer was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Army. His hobbies included baseball, fishing and he was an avid CB Radio enthusiast.
Survivors include his wife Ruby (nee Ashley) of Lorain, son Bryan of Lorain, daughter Cathy Goodin of Cincinnati, 1 granddaughter, and 5 half sisters of Flemington , WV.
He was preceded in death by his parents George and Bertha (White) Shaffer and half brother Bessel.
Visitation will be Friday, May 10, 2002 from1 1 to 1 at the Dombrowski-Volak-Riddle Funeral Home, 1939 Oberlin Ave., Lorain. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. at Elmhurst Park Cemetery, 32787 Detroit Road, Avon. Full military honors to be conducted by the V.F.W. Post 1079, Elyria, OH .
