Ernest C. Morrow, 80, U.S. Steel Inspector
Ernest C. Morrow, 80 years of age and a resident of Lorain, passed away Friday, May 10, 2002 at his home following a lengthy illness.Ernest was born May 3, 1922 in Bloomfield, IN where he was raised. He had lived in Amherst since 1940 moving to Lorain in 1948 where he has been since.
Ernest worked for U.S. Steel retiring in 1986 after 44 years as an inspector. He served in the U.S. Army as a machine gunner and sharp shooter with the Battery C 453rd Coast Artillery Division where he took part in the Battle of Normandy, Battle of the Bulge and the Battle of Ardennes. He was a member of the American Legion Post #30. He was a member of both Fellowship Baptist Church in Lorain and North Lake Missionary Baptist Church in South Amherst. He enjoyed billiards, photography and fishing.
He is survived by his sons, Kenneth Morrow of Vermilion, John Morrow, Robert Morrow and Michael Morrow all of Lorain, and Donald Morrow of Lake Ronkonkoma, NY; his daughter Beverly Iwanek of South Amherst; 7 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; his brother Jack Morrow of Birmingham; his sister Carmel (Opal) Denny of Monticello, KY.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Jeannette (nee Brucker) Morrow in 1997; his infant daughter, Cheryl Jean Morrow; his parents, Ernest T. and Nannie (nee Correl) Morrow; and an infant brother Homer Morrow.
Friends may call Sunday, May 12, 2002 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst where funeral services will be held Monday, May 13, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. The Rev. Jack Ison, pastor of Fellowship Baptist Church, Lorain will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst.
