Ruth L. Velez, 64, Enjoyed Crocheting

She was born March 3, 1938 in Fairmount, West Virginia. She came to Lorain from Akron, Ohio in 1952. She relocated in Chesapeake, Virginia in 1986. In 1989 made her home in Providence, RI.

Mrs. Velez worked as a Nurses Assistant for Elkhart Nursing Home while living in Chesapeake, Virginia. She retired as a Cashier for Dunkin Donuts in Providence, RI due to her illness.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain. She enjoyed reading romance novels, crocheting and embroidering.

Among the survivors are her sons Pedro Velez of San Antonio, Texas, David Velez of Chase City , Virginia and Juan Velez of Providence, RI.; daughters Maria Gonzalez of San Antonio, Texas, Theresa Colon of Lorain and Erie Charland Of Warwick, RI; sister Dessie M. Gonzalez of Uvalde, Texas; 14 Grandchildren 4 Great Grandchildren and 5 Nieces and Nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 29 years Sergio Velez in 1980,

Friends may call Thursday 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 7:00 to 9:00 PM in the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, Lorain, Ohio.

The Funeral will be Friday, May 24, 2002 at 8:45 AM with closing prayers in the funeral home followed by 9:30 AM Mass of the Resurrection in Sacred heart Chapel 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain. The Reverend William A. Thaden, Pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
