Thomas V. "T.V." Smith, 85, Smitty's Antiques Proprietor
Thomas V. "T.V." Smith, age 85, of Lorain, died Monday, May 20, 2002, at Autumn Aegis Nursing Home, Lorain following an extended illness.He was born September 15, 1916 in Heilwood, PA and had been a resident of Lorain for most of his life.
Mr. Smith attended Lorain High School and went on to serve as a certified blaster for the Civilian Conversation Corps. From 1932 to 1934. He was later employed as an electrician for the American Shipbuilding Company of Lorain. From 1945 through 1999 he served as the proprietor of Smitty's Antiques, a well known Lorain entity located at West 21st and Elyria Avenue, which specialized in the sale and distribution of antiques of all kinds as well as second hand furniture and appliances.
Mr. Smith is survived by his son, Thomas J. Smith of Lorain, daughter, Barbara Reed of Lorain, four grandchildren, four great grandchildren, sisters, Veronica Matyas and Helen Timko both of Lorain, Agnes Dobis of Port Clinton, and Elizabeth "Betty" Iwanicki residing in California.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara (nee Chulig) in 1999, parents, Michael and Elizabeth (nee Fetscha) Smith (a.k.a. Schmidt), sisters, Ethel Kopronica, Mary Bertsch, and brothers: John "Spike" Smith and Michael "Jack" Smith.
Visitation will be Thursday, May 23, 2002 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain. The Rev. David A. Novak, pastor of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
