Frank J. Gergely, 84, of Sheffield Lake, died Friday, May 24, 2002 at Meadowview Care Center, Seville, Ohio, following an illness of 4 months.Born Sept 8, 1917 in Gary, West Virginia, he has lived here since 1977.
He worked as superintendent in the Coal Mines of US Steel in Gary, West Virginia for 38 years, retiring in 1975.
He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Sheffield Lake. He was a member and 4th Degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus, in Welch, West Virginia.
His interests included flowers and making repairs. He was a Cleveland Indians fan.
Surviving are his sons; Joseph, of Little River, S. Carolina; William, of Franklin, Indiana; and Frank Jr., of Seville, Ohio; daughter Theresa Marie Taborn, of Little River, S. Caroline; 2 grandchildren, brothers, Julius Gergely, of Welch, West Virginia; Steve Gergely, of Deltona, Florida; Bill, of Princeton, West Virginia; sisters, Ann Gergely, of Gary, West Virginia; and sister Ann Therese of the Order of St. Joseph, of Kalamazoo, MI.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Theresa (nee Oleksa), and his parents, Steve and Anna (Kamenski) Gergely.
The family will receive friends on Monday, May 27th, from 6-8 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain, where services will be Tuesday, May 28th, at 9:15 a.m. followed by mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Sheffield Lake. Rev. Fr. Stephen Shields, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
