Lucia Santiage, 86, enjoyed sewing and gardening

Lucia Santiago (nee Rodriguez), 86, of Lorain, died Monday, May 27, 2002 at her residence following a lengthy illness.

She was born Nov. 19, 1915 in Patillas, Puerto Rico, and settled in Lorain in 1982.

While living in Puerto Rico, she was self-employed as a seamstress.

She was an active member of the 1st Spanish Baptist Church, Lorain, and was a former member of Local del Evangelio, Lorain.

She enjoyed sewing and gardening.

Surviving are her 3 sons, Juan, of Bronx, NY, Sergio, of Lorain, and Pastor Luis Santiago, of Lorain, 6 daughters, Margarita Hernandez, of Philadelphia, PA, Judy Santiago, of New York City, MY, Carmen Santiago, of Lorain, Lucia Calderon, and Ana C. Santiago, both of Lorain, and Esther Iyala, of Bronx, NY, 34 grandchildren, 64 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Ambrosio Santiago, in 1988, sisters, Sanchez Rodriguez, Alfreda Rodriguez, Isabel Rodriguez, Flor Rodriguez, Tona Rodriguez, and brothers, Justo Rodriguez, and Candelario Rodriguez.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 30, 2002 from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. and the 1st, Spanish Baptist Church, E 31st and Gary Ave., Lorain, where funeral services will be Friday May 31, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. Pastor Luis Santiago of 1st Spanish Baptist Church, and son of Mrs. Santiago, will officiate, and Rev. Greg Vamdell, pastor of 1st, Baptist Church of Sheffield Lake, will co-officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Twp. The Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain is handling the arrangements.
