Charles Bunevich, 84, Former Sergeant in US Army

Charles "Wad" Bunevich, 84, of Lorain, died Tuesday, May 28, 2002 at A Dreamcatcher Adult Home, Lorain following a short illness.

Born Nov. 22, 1917 in Monessen, PA, he has lived in Lorain for most of his life.

He served as a sergeant and motor vehicle dispatcher in the US Army during World War II serving in Northern France, Southern France, Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe. He received the American Defense Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with 5 Bronze Stars.

He worked as a crane man and clerk in the seamless mills of Lorain Works US Steel for 42 years, retiring in 1982.

He was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church, the United Steel Workers Union Local 1104, A.A.R.P., and was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign War Post 451 in Lorain.

He enjoyed playing gold, softball, reading, and watching sports.

Surviving is his brother, John Metelsky, of Lorain.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Sophia (nee Vorkavich) in 1999, his father, Steve Bunevich, his mother Helen (nee Lipinski) Bunevich Metesky, brothers, Daniel Bunevich, in 1997 and Andrew Metelsky in 2001.

Friends may call on Saturday, June 1, 2002 at 9:00 until the time of funeral services at 10:00 a.m. at Ss. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church, E. 32nd & Gary Ave., Lorain. Very Rev. Archpriest Basil Stoyka, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Sheffield Village, Ohio. VFW Post #451 will conduct full military honors. The Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain is handling the arrangements.
