Stephen A. "Peppy" Kozar, age 83, of Lorain died Wednesday, May 29, 2002 in the intensive care unit of Community Health Partners Hospital and Surgical Center following a brief illness.He was born October 31, 1918 in Star Junction, PA and had been a resident of Lorain since his childhood.
A graduate of Lorain High School, Mr. Kozar went on to serve with the Military Police Division of the United States Army during WW II.
He was employed in the maintenance department of the Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company in Avon Lake; he retired in 1980 following 33 years of service with the company.
A parishioner of St. Vitus Catholic Church, he was a member of the Polish-American Citizens' Club, the American Slovak Club, as well as the Jednota Slovak Fraternal Lodge.
An avid bowler, he participated in numerous senior social leagues throughout the city. Additional interests include flower and vegetable gardening.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years: Barbara (nee Furjanic), son: Jerry of Lorain and 4 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Jean Hunyad in 1993, his parents, Matthew and Sophie (nee Sofranko) Kozar, by brothers: John, George, and Joseph and by sisters Mary Hoholski, Ann Benedict, Catherine Rigda, Helen Forest, and Sr. Mary Matthew.
Visitation will be Sunday, June 2, 2002 from 2-4 an d7-9 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain. Where a parish rosary service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Monday, June 3, 2002 beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by his funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. in the St. Vitus Catholic Church, East 32nd Street and Pearl Ave. The Rev. Simon Nekic, pastor of St. Vitus will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
