Charles E. Thompson, 76, enjoyed Pittsburgh sports teams
Charles E. Thompson, 76, of Lorain passed away on Thursday morning, May 30, 2002 at Community Heath Partners and Surgical Center-W following a long illness.Mr. Thompson was born on March 20, 1926 in Connellsville, PA and moved permanently to Lorain in 1966. He was a veteran of the United States Army receiving a Purple Heart and 5 Bronze Stars for service during both WWII and The Korean Conflict. In 1998 he retired from The US Steel Company in Lorain as a load checker. He had 33 years of service.
He enjoyed Pittsburgh sports teams, especially the Steelers and the Pirates. He was also a fan of local softball teams.
Mr. Thompson is survived by a daughter, Penny Gut of Southington, OH, three sons, Elmwood and Timothy of Lorain, Charles A of Vermilion, OH, 6 grandchildren and two great granddaughters.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Minako (nee Takahashi) Thompson on July 29, 2001 and his parents.
Friends may call on Sunday, June, 2, 2002 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124W. 5th Street, Lorain, Ohio 44052.
Funeral services will be on Monday, June 3, 2002 at 10:00 am in the funeral home with Rev. Jay Roller, pastor of the Grace Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be at the Ridge Hill Memorial Park Cemetery in Amherst Township. Full Military honors will be provided at graveside by the VFW Post 451 of Lorain.
