Richard S. Martin, 80, Served in US Army during WWII as a Private First Class

Richard S. "Dick" Martin, 80, of Lorain, died Monday June 3, 2002 at Autumn Aegis Nursing Home after a three-year illness.

He was born December 11, 1921 in Logan Ohio and had resided in Lorain for the past 53 years.

Mr. Martin served with the US Army during World War II as a Private First Class. He saw action in Normandy, France, Rhineland, and Central Europe. He was awarded the EAME Service Medal with three bronze stars, WWII Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

He worked for the city of Lorain in the Parks and Recreation Department as a truck driver for 20 years. He them worked as US Steel in Lorain as an oiler for 12 years before retiring.

Mr. Martin was a life member of VFW Post #451 in Lorain.

He is survived by his son Kenneth of Lorain and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Virginia and parents Silas and Marjorie (nee Williams) Martin.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery, 3700 Center Rd., Avon. The Rev. Bill Tumbleson will officiate. Military honors will be provided by VFW #451 of Lorain. Burial will follow.

Arrangements are under the direction of Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain.
