Clara C. Homolya, 75, enjoyed playing cards, bingo, and loved her family
Clara C. Homolya (nee Hunady), 75, of Amherst, died Monday June 10, 2002 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain after a lengthy illness.She was born August 7, 1926 in Lorain and had resided in Amherst since 1991 moving from Lorain where she had lived most of her life.
She was a graduate of Lorain High School in the class of 1944B and them attended the St. Joseph School of Practical Nursing where she was president of her class.
Mrs. Homolya worked as a licensed practical nurse at St. Joseph Hospital in Lorain for 18 years retiring in 1991. Prior to that she had worked for the Lorain County Welfare Department in Elyria, General Motors in Elyria and Tony's Meats in Lorain.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic church in Amherst, the servants of Mary Prayer Group, and Holy Trinity Catholic Church Altar & Rosary Society, the Senior Citizens of Amherst Catholic Golden Agers, the Amherst Golden Agers in which she was past secretary-treasurer, AARP and the St. Joseph Lamp Lighters Prayer Group.
Mrs. Homolya worked the polls during elections and was a birth right volunteer. She coordinated and organized dinner functions at St. John and Baptist Catholic Church and Holy Trinity Catholic Church. She was an avid Cleveland Indians fan and enjoyed playing cards and bingo and loved her family.
Mrs. Homolya was a 12-year survivor of chronic leukemia.
She is survived by her daughter Joanne Green of Amherst, sons: Leonard Homolya of Amherst and Kenneth Homolya of Elyria; stepdaughter Joanne Hudacek of Amherst; 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Stephan and Mary (nee Havrila) Hunady, brothers Charles Hunady, Steve Hunady and Frank Hunady and sisters Regina Raptis, Betty Hunady, Mary Hunady, Ann Nagy and Margaret Baker.
Friends may call Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain where the Holy Trinity Altar & Rosary Society will pray the rosary Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 9:15 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 200 St. Joseph Dr., Amherst. The Rev. George Vrabel, associate pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
