Steve J. Kocsan, 91, enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, football, and vacationing

Steve J. Kocsan, 91, of Lorain, died Tuesday, June 11, 2002 at Community Health Partners Hospital, Lorain following a lengthy illness.

Born Dec. 18, 1910 in Lorain, he had lived here his entire life.

While attending Whitter Jr. High School in Lorain, he excelled in football.

He worked for 17 years as a general inspector at Lorain Works US Steel before establishing Steve's Market on Vine Ave. in South Lorain, in 1948. In 1969, Steve's Market relocated next to Willow Hardware on Oberlin Ave., in Lorain due to Urban Renewal. In 1972 he retired having been known for Hungarian meets and sausages.

He was a member of St. Ladislaus Catholic Church, Lorain, and the former St. Ladislaus Society.

He enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, football and vacationing on Pelee Island.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Caroline A. (nee Baley), a daughter, Marilyn Kocsan, of Lorain.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Caroline "Honey" Kocsan, in 1999, his parents, John Kocsan, in 1950, his mother, Julia (nee Veres) Kocsan, in 1972, and a sister, Julia Kempton, in 1969.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 13th, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be Friday, June 14th, at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home followed by mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. Ladislaus Catholic Church, 1412 E. 29th St., Lorain. Rev. Fr. Patrick Shields, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
