Frank H. Cverna, 92, US Army Veteran

Frank H. Cverna, age 92, longtime Lorain resident, died Wednesday June 12, 2002 at the Heather Hill Health Care Center in Chardon, Ohio following an extended illness. Mr. Cverna was born May 9, 1910 in Lorain and had been a life-long resident of the city.

He attended Lorain High School and went on to serve in the United States Army attaining the rating of technician 5th Grade during World War II. He served as a light truck operator in the European Theater and participated in battles in the Rhineland, the Ardennes, and Central Europe. He was the recipient of the European African Campaign Medal and three Bronze Stars, the Good Conduct medal, and the World War II Victory Medal.

He was employed as a roll turner at U.S. Steel's Lorain Works retiring in 1972 following 32 years of service with the company.

A parishioner of Holy Trinity Catholic Church (Lorain), he was also a member of American Legion Post #888 in Columbus, Ohio.

His hobbies include collecting antique brass, antique radios, and antique tools.

Survivors include daughters: Mrs. Charles (Mary Lou) Spear of LaCanada, California, Fran Cverna of Newbury, Ohio, a son: Frank of Los Alamos, New Mexico, and 2 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife: Mary (nee Zvara) in 1996, by his parents: Stephen and Mary (nee Zelina) Cverna, and Emily Palko.

Visitation will be Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel - 3224 Broadway - Lorain. A funeral mass will follow at 11:30 a.m. in Holy Trinity Catholic Church - 2428 Elyria Avenue - Lorain. The Rev. David A. Novak, pastor of Holy Trinity will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery - Lorain.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in his name to: The Healing Arts Fund at Heather Hill - 12340 Bass Lake Road - Chardon, Ohio 44024.
