Roland F. Gabel, 85, served in US Army during WWII
Roland F. Gabel, 85, of Elyria and formerly of Avon Lake passed away Saturday June 15, 2002 at the Center Ridge Nursing Home, North Ridgeville following a short illness.He was born July 24, 1917 in Olmsted Falls, Ohio and has lived in Elyria for the past five years coming from Avon Lake where he lived most of his life.
He served in the US Army 411th AAF Base Unit in the Pacific during World War II. Mr. Gabel was employed as a truck mechanic for International Harvester, Cleveland, retiring 20 years age.
Roland enjoyed building model cars, rebuilding and repairing small engines and collecting model trains.
Mr. Gabel is survived by a sister, Ernestine Delaberto of Garfield Heights and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy (nee Baker) in 1972; a sister, Dorothy Hickel; two brothers, Ernest and Howard Gabel and his parents, Emery F. and Anna (nee Bossert) Gabel.
Friends may call at the BUSCH-BURMEISTER FAMILY CHAPEL, 163 Avon-Belden Rd. Avon Lake from 7-9 p.m. Monday. Services and burial will take place at Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery, Avon on Tuesday June 18 at 1:00 p.m. Rev. William Williams of the Church of the Open Door will officiate.
