Joseph G. Kiska, 93, enjoyed hunting and fishing

Joseph G. Kiska, age 93, of Lorain, died Tuesday June 18, 2002 at Ohio Extended Care Center following a brief illness. Mr. Kiska was born April 14, 1909 in Lorain, Ohio and had been a life-long resident of the city.

He attended Lorain High School and later joined the Lake Terminal Railroad Company. He first served as a brakeman and was then promoted to the role of conductor. He retired as a training coordinator with the railroad in 1975 following 30 years of service with the company.

A parishioner of Holy Trinity Catholic Church (Lorain), he was a member of Branch #228 of the First Catholic Slovak Union, as well as a member of the American Slovak Club and the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen.

An avid outdoorsman, his hobbies include hunting and fishing. He also participated extensively in league bowling as a member of the Senior Social League at the American Slovak Lanes.

Survivors included his wife of 71 years: Margaret (nee Vigg), daughters: Rosemarie Csubak of Lorain and Janice Brady of Vermilion, five grandsons, and 13 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter: Evelyn Hinkle in 1962, by his parents: Peter and Sophie Kiska, by brothers: John and Paul Kiska, and by sisters: Rose Reese, Mary Urbanek, and Florence Peacock.

Visitation will be Thursday from 4-8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel - 3224 Broadway - Lorain. Funeral services will be Friday beginning at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. in Holy Trinity Catholic Church - 2428 Elyria Avenue - Lorain. The Rev. David Novak, Pastor of the church will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery - Lorain.
