Victor W. Omahan, 93, enjoyed reading, walking and boating

Victor W. Omahan, 93, of Gambier, Ohio and formerly of Lorain, Ohio, died Sunday June 23, 2002 at the Country Club Retirement Center in Mr. Vernon, Ohio.

He was born February 5, 1909 in Lorain and had resided in Gambier for the past four years moving from Lorain where he had lived most of his life.

Mr. Omahan worked as a police officer in the Lorain Police Department for 25 years and retired as a lieutenant. He then worked at Lorain County Community College in Elyria, Ohio as the first chief of security for 10 years.

He was a member of Ss. Cyril & Methodius Slovenian Catholic Church in Lorain and the Fraternal Order of Police. He enjoyed reading, walking and boating.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years Mayme (nee Gradisek) of Gambier, daughter Mrs. Stephen (Vivian) Murphy of North Canton, Ohio, son Donald (Nancy) Omahan of Gambier and grandsons David Murphy of North Canton and Christopher Omahan and Matthew Omahan, both of Gambier. He was preceded in death by his daughter Victoria, parents John & Gertrude (nee Jancar), brothers John, Philip, Jocob, John III, Stephen and John George and sisters Anna "Nettie" Cowie and Gabriella.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 11:00 a.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain (www.gluvna.net) (877) 810-3137. The Rev. Paul Krajnik, pastor of Ss. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church of Lorain, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
