Harold L. "Lefty" Weinbrandt, 79, enjoyed fishing, gardening and travel

Harold L. "Lefty" Weinbrandt, 79 of Sheffield Lake, formerly of Cleveland, passed away, Saturday, June 29, at Good Samaritan Health Center of heart failure. Mr. Weinbrandt was born, February 13, 1923 in Cleveland and had lived in Sheffield Lake since 1955.

Mr. Weinbrandt had worked as a millwright for the General Motors Corporation, Chevrolet Plant, Parma, retiring in 1985. He was a WWII Navy Veteran serving from November 1942 to February 1946 in the African-European-Middle European Theater as well as the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. He was a member of St. Teresa Church, Sheffield Village, where he served as an usher. He was also a member of the United Auto Workers Union #1005. He was a life member of Amvets Post 55, Sheffield Lake. With his work through the Amvets, Mr. Weinbrandt was responsible for placing American Flags on veterans' graves. He was active and delivered Meals on Wheels for North East Lorain County Social Service, Sheffield Lake. For his efforts with Meals on Wheels, he was awarded the Citizen of the Years Award. Mr. Weinbrandt enjoyed fishing, gardening and travel.

He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Helen (nee Belfi) Kline-Weinbrandt. Other survivors include his children, Karen Strickler of Defiance, OH, James Weinbrandt of Lorain, Nancy Kosakowski of Sheffield Lake and John Weinbrandt of Sheffield Lake. He is survived by 10 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and a sister Lois Sefcovic of North Royalton. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Carol (nee Biebelhausen), his twin brother Fred Weinbrandt, his parents, Fred and Dorothy (nee Soderberg) Thuener and stepfather Raymond Thuener.

Avon Lake, Monday, July 1 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Prayer service3 will be at the funeral home, Tuesday, July 2 at 9:15 a.m., followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Teresa Church, 1878 Abbe Rd., Sheffield Village, 44054 at 10:00 a.m. Fr. Robert J. Franco of the Church will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Teresa Cemetery. Memorial may be forwarded to the church.
