Merle E. Anthony, 94, enjoyed traveling, photography and bowling
Merle E. Anthony, 94 of Lorain died on Sunday morning, June 30, 2002 at Anchor Lodge Nursing Home in Lorain, OH following a lengthy illness.Mr. Anthony was born on April 9, 1908 in Johnstown, PA and moved to Lorain in 1909. He graduated from Lorain High School. He was a World War II, US Navy Veteran serving on the PT Boat in the Philippines.
He was a member of the St. John's United Church of Christ Church in Lorain. He was also a member of the Lorain Camera Club.
Mr. Anthony retired on June 1, 1970 as an accountant with US Steel. He enjoyed traveling, photography, and bowling.
He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Anthony is preceded in death by his wife, Elsie (nee Tisdale) Anthony, his parents; John and Mary (nee Unger) Anthony, twin brother Earl Anthony and sister Hildred.
Friends may call at the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home for Funeral, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain, OH, on Wednesday, July 3, 2002 from 10:00 a.m. until funeral time at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Robert Smith, interim-pastor of St. John's United Church of Christ will officiate.
Merle E. Anthony will be buried at Ridge Hill Memorial Park Cemetery in Amherst Twp., OH will full military honors provided by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 451.
The Family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the St. John's United Church of Christ, 715 Reid Ave., Lorain, Ohio 44052 in memory of him.
