Ben J. Noster, 83, U.S. Army Veteran
Ben J. Noster, age 83, of Lorain, died Monday, July 8, 2002 in Specialty Hospital of Lorain following a several month illness.He was born on March 9, 1919 in Elyria where he grew up and lived in Lorain since 1946.
He was a graduate of Elyria High School and attended Fenn College in Cleveland for 3 years.
He worked as a tool designer for the former Thew Shovel Company in Lorain for 30 years, until its closing. He also worked as a prototype machinist for Betcher Industries in Vermilion and part-time for Willow Hardware in Lorain for several years.
Mr. Noster was also a Technical Master Sergeant in the US Army during WWII in the 897th Ordnance Heavy Auto Maintenance Group. He served in France, Germany, Belgium, England and Africa.
He was a member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Lorain where he was an adult alter server, an usher and Man of the Year in 1991. He belonged to the United Polish Club, P.L.A.V, VFW Post 451 and a social member of the K of C, all in Lorain.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Emily Noster (nee Stein); son, Alan Noster of Lorain ; sister, Lucille Leifer of Elyria, several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Joseph and Theresa Noster and a brother, Flory Noster.
Friends may call Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. at the Dombrowski-Volak-Riddle Funeral Home, 1939 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain, where prayers will be said on Thursday at 9:30 a.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 418 15th Street, Lorain. Military Honors will be conducted by P.L.A.V Post 38 in Lorain. Reverend John Kline will officiate. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
