Modesta Velez, 90, Enjoyed Cooking and Bingo
Modesta Velez, age 90, of Lorain, died Sunday, July 14, 2002 at New Life Hospice of St. Joseph, Lorain following a brief illness.Born January 12, 1912 in Lares, Puerto Rico, she came to Lorain in 1947.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain and was a founding member of the Crursillo Movement at the Church. She enjoyed helping to cook in the church kitchen. She also enjoyed playing bingo.
Surviving are her 5 sons, Ismael L., Angelo M., Louis Nemesio, Louis Manuel, and Gilberto, all of Lorain, 2 daughters, Teresa Gonzalez, and Zoraida Lopez, both of Cleveland, many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, a sister, Panchita Lopez, of Lares, Puerto Rico.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Nemesio Ramos Velez, in 1986, 15 brothers and sisters, her parents and a granddaughter, Virginia Velez in 1999.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 16th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain where funeral services will be Wednesday, July 17th at 8:45 a.m. followed by mass at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
