Stephan Hanczaryk, 81, former US Steel Worker
Stephan Hanczaryk, age 81, of Lorain, died on Friday, July 19, 2002 at Community Health Partners Hospital and Surgical Center, Lorain, following a illness of one week.He was born on May 12, 1921 in Kopyczynic, West Ukraine. He loved to Lorain in 1950 from Austria.
He was employed in the Blast Furnace Dept. at US Steel for 15 years, retiring in 1983. Prior to this he worked at Fruehauf Trailer Corp.
Stephan was a member of St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Church, Lorain. He was a member of the United Steel Workers Union Local 1104 and the Ukrainian Congress Committee and president of the local branch of the Ukrainian National Association.
He is survived by his daughter: Irene Fawcett, of Mesa, AZ, 2 grandsons: Paul Hanczaryk, of Lorain and Preston Hanczaryk, of Cleveland and 1 great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years: Karolina (nee Haider), on May 6, 2002.
The family will receive friends on Monday, July 22, 2002 from 5-8 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain, where a panachida service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. in the funeral home followed by a noon Divine Liturgy at St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, Lorain. Rev. Fr. Peter Tomas, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
