Wayne J. "Wa-Hoo" Urig, 72, WWII Army Veteran
Wayne J. "Wa-Hoo" Urig - 72 of Sheffield Village, passed away, Friday, July 19 at the Cleveland Clinic after complications of a heart ailment. Mr. Urig was born, October 12, 1929 in Avon Lake and has been a life long area resident.Mr. Urig worked in the maintenance department at BF Goodrich, Avon Lake, for 27 years. He was also the founder/Owner of Camp Wa-Hoo, Campground and Lounge, Sheffield Village. He was a WWII Army Veteran serving with the 82nd Airborne. Mr. Urig was a member of the Sheffield Village Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad. A member of Amvets Post 55 of Sheffield Lake, the Moose Lodge in Lorain, the Elks Club of Warren, PA, the Sheffield PA, Rod and Gun Club, Knights of St. John, Lorain, the Sheffield Lake VFW and the American Legion, as well as, various other organizations.
In his retirement Mr. Urig moved to Clarendon, PA where he ran a sawmill and worked as heavy equipment operator. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and restoring and collecting classic cars.
He is survived by three sons, Dennis J. of Sheffield Village, Duane J. of Clarendon, PA and Scott W. of Sheffield Lake; two daughters, Cynthia L. Watkins of LaGrange Township and Terri L. Martin of Sheffield Township. Other survivors include 15 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 4 brothers, Lester of Sheffield Lake, Cletus of Lorain, Milton of Lutz, FL, Douglas of Collins, OH and sister Bonnie Zimmerman of Lorain. He is preceded in death by his parents, Romey J. and Clara (nee Kramer) Urig.
Friends may call the BUSCH-BURMEISTER FAMILY CHAPEL, 163 Avon-Belden Rd. Avon Lake, Monday, July 22 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be at the funeral home, Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Detroit Rd., Avon. A Memorial Service will be Wednesday, July 24 at the VFW Post, Clarendon, PA at 4:00 p.m.
