Thomas E. Walden, 74, WWII Navy Veteran
Thomas E. Walden - 74 of Avon Lake, formerly of Brook Park, passed away, Saturday July 20 at his home following complications of cancer. Mr. Walden was born, November 15, 1927 in Elkins, West Virginia and had lived in Brook Park for 38 years prior to moving to Avon Lake, 3 years ago.Mr. Walden was Controller and Vice President for Murch and Company Brokerage Firm, Cleveland for 17 years then became the Business Manager for 13 years with the Hattie Larlham Foundation, Mantua, OH, which operates a home for children who need special care. Mr. Walden was a WWII Navy Veteran, serving in the Pacific including Okinawa. He also was a Korean War Army Veteran. He received his BS from Davis and Elkins College, West Virginia and his Masters Degree from Dyke-Spenciarn Business College, Cleveland. He was also a member of American Legion Post 610, Brook Park. Mr. Walden enjoyed bowling, hunting and fishing, as well as, tending to his flower and vegetable gardens.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Dorothy (nee Wooddell); sons Thomas (Gayle) of Elkins, WV and Robert A. (Tonie) of Olmsted Township and a daughter Diane S. Brunner (David) of Avon Lake. Other survivors include 7 grandchildren; Thomas A. (Jennifer), Jacob L. (Rachel), Meghan J. and Abby L. Walden, Shawn D., Jason A., and Kevin M. Brunner; 3 great grandchildren Thomas L. Collin and Marlee Walden; brother Richard (Betty) Walden and sister Patty (Junior) Rosencrance. He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Thelma (nee Purkey) Walden and a brother Ronald.
Friend may call at the BUSCH-BURMEISTER FAMILY CHAPEL, 163 Avon-Belden Rd, Avon Lake, Tuesday, July 23, from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be at the funeral home, Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. Rev Bill Shomo, Chaplain of the Hospice of the Western Reserve will officiate.
