Stephen J. "Shep" Silac, 78, US Army Veteran

Stephen J. "Shep" Silac, age 78, long time resident of Sheffield Township, died suddenly Monday July 22, 2002 at EMH Regional Medical Center. A graduate of Clearview High School, he went on to serve with the United States Army during World War II.

A parishioner of St. Vitus Catholic Church, he had been self-employed for the past 45 years as a carpenter doing residential construction throughout the area. He had formerly been employed by the American ShipBuilding Company, United Steep Corporation, and the Fruehauf Trailer Company.

Survivors include his brothers: George of Sheffield Township, Peter of North Ridgeville, sisters: Carol Mauser of Euclid, Theresa Skryantz of Avon Lake, and Dorothy Mihalcik of Sheffield Township, along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Stephan and Helen (nee Mlacek) Silac, by brothers: John in 1912, Joseph in 1917, John J. in 1998, and by a sister: Catherine Silac in 1926.

Friends may call Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel - 3224 Broadway, Lorain - where a parish rosary service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Tuesday beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by his funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Vitus Catholic Church - 1785 East 32nd Street in Lorain. The Reverend Simon Nekic, pastor of the church will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery - Lorain where V.F.W. Post #451 will conduct full military honors.

The family suggests memorials to the charity of the donor's choice.
