Peter M. Zanni, 80, US Army Veteran
Peter M. Zanni, 80, of Amherst Township, died Monday July 29, 2002 at his home after a long illness.He was born July 31, 1921 in Lorain and had resided in Amherst Township for the past 45 years moving from Lorain.
Mr. Zanni served in the US Army during World War II and received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
He worked at US Steel in Lorain for over 40 years before retiring.
He was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Lorain and the church Holy Name Society. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans Louis Paul Proy Chapter 20 of Lorain and a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars post 1442 in Amherst.
Mr. Zanni was an amateur radio operator.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years Irene (nee Kruke); son Jerry Zanni of Wakeman; one grandson and brother Nazareno "Anno" Zanni of Louisville, Kentucky and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Alessandro and Teresa (nee Conti) Zanni and brother Alfred Zanni.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain, where the St. Stanislaus Holy Name Society will recite the rosary at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will take place on Thursday in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, 2702 Elyria Ave., Lorain from 9:30 a.m. until the time of his funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. The Rev. Kevin Shemuga, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain where the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 20 will conduct military honors.
