Alfred John Diedrick Jr., 60, US Navy Veteran & Avid Canadian Goose Hunter
Alfred John Diedrick, Jr., 60 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Wednesday, August 14, 2002 at his home following a year long illness.He was born June 13, 1941 in Lorain. He was raised in Amherst and had been a lifetime resident. He was a 1960 graduate of Marion L. Steele High School.
He served in the US Navy from 1960 to 1962 and was among the sailors who commissioned the USS Kitty Hawk. He was employed by the Nordson Corp., Amherst for 35 1/2 years retiring in 1998 from the Maintenance Department. He was a member of the Amherst VFW Post #1662 the American Legion Post #118; and the Machinist Local Union #1802. He enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling and was an avid Canadian goose hunter.
Survivors include his wife of 37 1/2 years Gloria Ruth (nee Alten) Diedrick; his son Alfred John Diedrick, III of Berlin Heights; his daughter Jean Wohlfield of Mesa, Arizona; six grandchildren; and his father Alfred J. Diedrick, Sr., of Amherst.
He was preceded in death by his mother Violet B. Diedrick (nee Brunback) on January 31, 1998.
Friends may call Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services with military honors by the Amherst Military Honor Guard will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. from the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Amherst.
