Doreen E. Tippie, 58, Nurse
Doreen E. (nee Poor) Tippie, 58 died on Tuesday, September 3, 2002 at Community Health Partners Hospital and Surgical Center, West in Lorain following a long illness.Mrs. Tippie was born October 23, 1943 in Lorain and was a lifelong resident. She was a 1961 graduate of Lorain High School and a 1964 graduate of the Toledo Riverside Hospital School of Nursing in Toledo.
She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Lorain. Mrs. Tippie was a registered nurse in the Office of Dr. James B. Patterson in Lorain. She had also been a nurse at the former St. Joseph's Hospital for many years.
Mrs. Tippie collected Lladro Sculptures, was an avid shopper, enjoyed gardening, accomplished decorator and liked to sew. She was also a huge fan of the local youth baseball programs, supporting and encouraging her husband in his 23 years as a youth baseball couch.
She is survived by her husband, William H. Tippie, to who she was married on March 9, 1972,her daughter, Caryn E. Straka of Lorain, sons, Christopher S. Straka of Stafford, VA, Ronald J. Straka of Lorain, her father, Paul W. Poor of Lorain, 5 grandchildren and her sister Linda L. McCrann of Lorain, her step-daughter, Audra M. Ritenour of Lorain, her step son, William H. Tippie III of Columbus, OH.
Mrs. Tippie is preceded in death by her mother Myfanwy E. "Betty" (nee Hughes) Poor on July 31, 1991.
Friends may call at Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home for Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain on Friday, September 6, 2002 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held on September 7, 2002 at 10 a.m. at Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, 647 Reid Avenue, Lorain with Rev. Stephen Sedgwick, pastor, officiating.
Doreen E. Tippie will be buried at Ridge Hill Memorial Park Cemetery in Amherst Twp., Ohio.
